Three Steps to Relieve and Fix Allergies

Allergies can make day-to-day living miserable. With coughing, sneezing, and itchy, watery eyes, just getting through the day can be a trial. The good news is that it doesn't have to be. Three steps can make it possible to relieve allergies.

Taking It a Step at a Time

What are these three steps you can take to alleviate your allergy suffering?

1. Make sure it really is allergies

Sometimes, it is hard to differentiate between a cold and allergies. If you have a headache or fever, it is likely a cold instead of allergies. However, that is not always a sure indicator. Symptoms you might experience from allergies include:

  • Runny nose
  • Congested nose
  • Red, watering eyes
  • Itching
  • Sneezing

If you think you have allergies, go to step 2.

2. Avoiding your triggers is the best start to the self-help process

Allergy-proof your home and explore over the counter (OTC) remedies. For example, pets are a common source of allergens. Keeping them out of the bedroom is one way to lower allergic reactions. Further, depending on the season, you might be suffering from seasonal allergies.  Consider keeping your windows tightly closed and running the air conditioner instead.  OTC allergy medications can help decrease symptoms, making day-to-day life easier to manage. If allergy proofing and OTC medications do not do the trick, go to step 3.

3. Make an appointment to see an allergist

Sometimes, controlling allergy symptoms requires the help of a professional. An allergist will test for allergies, assess management options, and may recommend allergy shots.

Taking a proactive approach to your allergies will transform your life during allergy season. Know whether you have allergies. Take at-home steps to relieve allergies. Make an appointment with Dakota Allergy & Asthma if you need professional help.

Working together with your allergist, you can expect to drastically reduce your allergy symptoms. Without the sneezing, itching, and runny congested nose, you can get the most out of life. That is The Dakota Allergy Way.
